16 de abr. de 2024 · Richard FitzGilbert, 2nd earl of Pembroke was an Anglo-Norman lord whose invasion of Ireland in 1170 initiated the opening phase of the English conquest. The son of Gilbert FitzGilbert, 1st Earl of Pembroke, he succeeded to his father’s estates in southern Wales in 1148/49.

Hace 4 días · Mary Sidney Herbert, Countess of Pembroke (1561–1621) Born to Mary Dudley and Henry Sidney, Mary Sidney was given a humanist education; at a young age, she was taught several languages, namely French, Italian, Latin, and Greek. She married Henry Herbert, Earl of Pembroke, in 1577 at the age of 15. Together they had four children.

Rector. Rev'd Kevin Hasler. The Priory Church of St Mary is the parish church of Usk, Monmouthshire, Wales. Its origin was as the church of Usk Priory, a Benedictine nunnery founded by Richard de Clare, 2nd Earl of Pembroke in the twelfth century. After the Dissolution of the Monasteries the church became the parish church of the town.

Hace 4 días · His younger sister, Mary, married Henry Herbert, 2nd Earl of Pembroke and was a writer, translator and literary patron. Sidney dedicated his longest work, the Arcadia, to her. After her brother's death, Mary reworked the Arcadia, which became known as The Countess of Pembroke's Arcadia.
