Henry Hyde, 2nd Earl of Clarendon, PC (2 June 1638 – 31 October 1709) was an English aristocrat and politician. He held high office at the beginning of the reign of his brother-in-law, King James II . Early life. He was the eldest son of Edward Hyde, 1st Earl of Clarendon, and his second wife, Frances Aylesbury.
22 de feb. de 2024 · Henry Hyde, 2nd earl of Clarendon (born June 2, 1638, England—died Oct. 31, 1709, England) was an English statesman, the eldest son of the 1st Earl of Clarendon and a Royalist who opposed the accession of William and Mary. As Viscount Cornbury he became a member of Parliament in 1661 and, in 1674, succeeded to the earldom on his father’s death.

Lord Clarendon was succeeded by his first cousin Henry Hyde, 2nd Earl of Rochester, who became the fourth Earl of Clarendon; he was the only son of the first Earl of Rochester. He had earlier represented Launceston in the House of Commons and served as Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall .

Hyde, Henry (1638–1709), 2nd earl of Clarendon, lord lieutenant of Ireland , was born 2 June 1638, eldest son of Edward Hyde, 1st earl of Clarendon and lord chancellor of England, and his second wife Frances, daughter of Sir Thomas Aylesbury.
Edward Hyde, 1st Earl of Clarendon, son of Henry Hyde of Dinton in Wiltshire, was born on 18 February 1609, and became a barrister of the Middle Temple. His first marriage (with Anne Ayliffe in 1629) connected him with the powerful Villiers family, and his second in 1634, with Frances Aylesbury, substantially improved his position.
