The title Earl of Deloraine was created in the Peerage of Scotland in 1706 for Lord Henry Scott, a son of the 1st Duke of Monmouth and a grandson of King Charles II, along with the titles Viscount of Hermitage (named for Hermitage Castle) and Lord Goldielands. The titles became extinct in 1807 upon the death of the 4th Earl.
