Crown Prince Frederik, King Christian VII’s son, had no intention of allowing Frederik and his mother Juliana to continue their rule. In 1784, the Crown Prince reached the age of legal majority and then ruled permanently as Prince Regent.

On 30 April 2008, the Queen of Denmark granted to her two sons, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim, and their legitimate patrilineal descendants of both sexes the hereditary title "Count of Monpezat". The title is based on the French title "Comte de Laborde de Monpezat" which was used by their father Henrik, Prince Consort of Denmark.

  7. Hereditary Prince Knud died on June 14, 1976, in Gentofte, Denmark at the age of 75. Hereditary Princess Caroline-Mathilde survived her husband for 19 years and died on December 12, 1995, at the age of 83. Both were interred at Roskilde Cathedral in Roskilde, Denmark.
