Hermann Ernst Franz Bernhard was the second son of Prince Ernst I and his wife Princess Feodora. He studied law in Berlin and then joined the military. As his elder brother did not succeed him as sovereign due to his marriage to a commoner, Prince Hermann succeeded his father as 6th Prince of the House of Hohenlohe-Langenburg in 1860.
He succeeded to the title of Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg (Fürst zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg) on 21 April 1860, when his elder brother signed over his rights to the throne. Read more on Wikipedia. Gottfried, 8th Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg (German: Gottfried Hermann Alfred Paul Maximilian Viktor Fürst zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg; 24 March 1897 – 11 May 1960) was the only surviving son of Ernst II, Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg. At the death of his father in 1950, Gottfried inherited the title of Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg.
He was born in Crailsheim, West Germany, the middle child and only son of Kraft, Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg (1935–2004) and his first wife, Princess Charlotte of Cro (b. 1938). Paternally, he is a grandson of Princess Margarita of Greece and Denmark, and a grandnephew of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, whose funeral he attended.
