Horace Walpole. Horace Walpole, właśc. Horatio Walpole 4. hrabia Orford (ur. 24 września 1717 w Londynie, zm. 2 marca 1797 tamże) – angielski pisarz i arystokrata, syn Roberta Walpole’a, pierwszego premiera Wielkiej Brytanii. Był jednym z twórców gotycyzmu . Od 1791 był hrabią Orford. Od 1741 zasiadał w brytyjskim parlamencie.
Horatio Walpole, 4. hrabě z Orfordu známý jako Horace Walpole (24. září 1717 Londýn – 2. dubna 1797 tamtéž) byl anglický politik, architekt a preromantický spisovatel. Je považován za zakladatele žánru gotického románu a je znám také jako autor mnoha čtivých dopisů, nabízejících živý obraz intelektuální aristokracie jeho doby.
Katalin orosz császárnő vásárolta meg. Walpole igazi hírnévre leveleivel és memoárjaival tett szert. Levelei 1840-ben jelentek meg hat kötetben, kiegészítve az 1851-ben megjelent üzenetekkel, amelyeket William Mason költővel váltott. A levelek szellemessek, és a kort, valamint szereplőit érintő kíméletlen gúny hatja át.
Horace Walpole, 4º Conte di Orford, è stato uno scrittore inglese, considerato il fondatore della letteratura gotica, autore de Il castello di Otranto, primo romanzo horror propriamente detto, e attivo in diversi ambiti e con vari interessi. Famoso fu il suo vasto epistolario con cui intratteneva dotte disquisizioni sui più disparati argomenti.

He is now largely remembered for Strawberry Hill, the home he built in Twickenham, south-west London where he revived the Gothic style some decades before his Victorian successors, and for his Gothic novel, The Castle of Otranto .
