Hace 5 días · The House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha was founded in relatively recent times - in 1826 to be precise - as a cadet branch of the much older German House of Wettin. Its name comes from its oldest domain, one of a group of small states known as the Saxon or Ernestine duchies, located in the present-day German states of Thuringia and Bavaria.
