Ernst Ludwig II ( Coburg, 8 August 1709 – Meiningen, 24 February 1729), was a duke of Saxe-Meiningen. He was the third but second surviving son of Ernst Ludwig I, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen and his first wife, Dorothea Marie of Saxe-Gotha . The death of his older brother Josef Bernhard (22 March 1724) made him the heir to the duchy of Saxe-Meiningen.

Life. Adelaide was born on 13 August 1792 at Meiningen, Thuringia, Germany. She was the first child of George I, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen and Luise Eleonore. At her baptism, she had twenty-one godparents, including: her mother. Maria Theresa of Naples and Sicily, the Holy Roman Empress. Maria Carolina of Austria, the Queen of Naples and Sicily.
He was the first son of Anton Ulrich, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen and Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Philippsthal. Reign. August Friedrich succeeded his father in the duchy of Saxe-Meiningen (1763) when he was only eight years old. Because of this, his mother, the Dowager Duchess Charlotte Amalie, acted as regent during his minority, which ended in 1779.
