Wettin is a small town belonging to the municipality of Wettin-Löbejün in the Saale District of Saxony-Anhalt (Saxony-Ascania), Germany. It is situated on the River Saale , just north of Halle . It is known for Wettin Castle (German: Burg or Schloss Wettin ), the ancestral seat of the House of Wettin , the former ruling dynasty of Saxony , Poland , the United Kingdom , Belgium , and Bulgaria .
Albertine branch. The Albertine branch is a German princely family of the House of Wettin. The name derives from the progenitor of the line, Albert III, Duke of Saxony. The Albertine branch ruled from 1485 to 1918 as dukes, electors and kings in Saxony.
Founded in 1826 by Ernest Anton, the sixth duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, it is a cadet branch of the Saxon House of Wettin. One agnatic branch currently reigns in Belgium —the descendants of Leopold I —and another reigned until the death of Elizabeth II in the United Kingdom —the descendants of Albert, Prince Consort .

Dedo I. Dedo I, Count of Wettin (c. 940 – 13 November 1009), also known as Dedo I of Wettin, was a son of Theodoric I of Wettin and Jutta of Merseburg. As a young man, Dedo spent his childhood with his relative Rikdag, Margrave of Meissen, Zeitz and Merseburg, and was thus closely related to one of the most influential men of East Saxony.
