Mountbatten-Windsor differs from the official name of the British royal family, which remains the House of Windsor. In accordance with law and custom in the English-speaking world, the surname Mountbatten-Windsor belongs to all male-line descendants of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and is used by them if and when a surname is needed.
Windsor House was built on the site of former Dairy Farm cold stores. Developer Hongkong Land acquired the land when it acquired Dairy Farm in 1972, and originally planned to build a hotel on the site. The cold stores were demolished in July 1976 and the site was temporarily used as a public car park. [1] [2]
