The boiling frog is an apologue describing a frog being slowly boiled alive. The premise is that if a frog is put suddenly into boiling water, it will jump out, but if the frog is put in tepid water which is then brought to a boil slowly, it will not perceive the danger and will be cooked to death.
The adage goes, if you need to boil a frog (not exactly sure how often that comes up) but if you need to boil a frog, if you just throw the frog into hot water it will jump right out. So, you have to put that frog in tepid water and gradually turn up the heat and it won’t notice it until you’ve boiled it.

However, when the frog is placed in room temperature water, and the water is slowly brought to boil, Mr. Frog does not perceive the danger and is cooked to death.
