Hugh Percy succeeded his father as Duke of Northumberland in 1786. He served as a general in the British army. He married on July 2, 1765, Anne, daughter of John third Earl of Bute. The marriage was dissolved in 1779. He married Frances Julia, third daughter of Peter Burrell, of Beckenham, Kent, and sister of Peter, first Lord Gwydyr.
