Hugh de Balliol (died 1229), Lord of Bywell, Barnard Castle and Gainford, was an English nobleman. He was the son of Eustace de Balliol and Petronilla FitzPiers. Balliol was a supporter of King John of England during the Barons Wars of 1215–17.

Biography Hugh Balliol, lord of Barnard Castle in County Durham, was the eldest son of Eustace de Hélicourt (later de Balliol; d.c.1208). He had at least three brothers, Bernard (d.1212), perhaps a cleric, Ingram (d.1239×44), lord of Urr and Dalton in Galloway and Tours-en-Vimeu in Picardy, and Henry (d.1246), later chamberlain of Scotland.
