Hace 6 días · In 1802, Humphry Davy used what he described as "a battery of immense size", consisting of 2,000 cells housed in the basement of the Royal Institution of Great Britain, to create an incandescent light by passing the current through a thin strip of platinum, chosen because the metal had an extremely high melting point.
Hace 2 días · Faraday’s formal scientific education began when he attended lectures by the eminent chemist Sir Humphry Davy at the Royal Institution of Great Britain. In 1812, after sending Davy a 300-page book of notes he had taken during these lectures, Faraday was appointed as a chemical assistant at the Royal Institution.

He established the Rumford professorship at Harvard College as well as the Rumford medals of the Royal Society (London) and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences , Boston.
