One of the golden patriots was Isaac Edward Emerson, a North Carolinian who had studied chemistry at the University of North Carolina and invented a headache and stomach remedy named Bromo-Seltzer. Headquartered in Baltimore, Emerson built the Emerson Tower that was the tallest building in the city until the 1920s.
