Count Józef Hauke-Bosak (19 March 1834 in Saint Petersburg – 21 January 1871) was a Polish general in the January Uprising, and commander of the Polish army in Lesser Poland, the closest collaborator of rebellion leader Romuald Traugutt. He fought many successful battles against the Russians in this region.
The Hauke-Bosak (more commonly called Hauke) is a German-Polish noble family. Originally a German middle class family, they settled in Poland at the end of the 18th century and achieved great importance and titles of nobility in the Kingdom of Poland , the Russian Empire , the Austrian Empire , and the Grand Duchy of Hesse .
