7 de dic. de 2021 · Griffith was born 1875, on a farm in Oldham County, Kentucky, to Confederate Army colonel Jacob Wark “Roaring Jake” Griffith, who was later elected as a Kentucky state legislator. Although Roaring Jake died when Griffith was ten years old, plunging his family into poverty, the elder Griffith’s larger-than-life figure shaped Griffith’s worldview from an early age.

David Griffith received little formal education, but, as a boy, he was told stories of the war and the antebellum south by his father, and devoured the popular literature of his day.
