4 de abr. de 2024 · Jacob van Ruisdael (born 1628/29, Haarlem, Netherlands—died March 10, 1682, Amsterdam) was a Baroque artist often regarded as one of the greatest Dutch landscape painters. His subjects and style varied throughout his career, leading to a dynamic oeuvre that comprises around 700 paintings, 100 drawings, and several etchings.

'While Ruisdael did travel to western Germany, he did not visit the mountainous region of Scandinavia that is evoked in this painting. He was likely to have been inspired by the popular landscapes of Allart van Everdingen, who had visited Norway in 1644.'.
In 1912, Hofstede de Groot attributed it to Gerrit van Hees (ca. 1625–1670); Stechow, in 1938, more plausibly proposed Van Ruisdael's cousin Jacob Salomonsz van Ruysdael (1629/30–1681). When the panel was owned by Nathaniel Thayer in Boston, it was considered to be by Hobbema (1638–1709) on the basis of a false signature.
