His daughter Lady Margaret Douglas married James Hamilton, Duke of Châtellerault, 2nd Earl of Arran, who was heir presumptive to the Scottish throne after Mary, Queen of Scots prior to the birth of Queen Mary's son Prince James in 1566.
James was married to Katherine Stuart, the "natural" daughter of James IV. He died without male issue, circa 1550, but on April 22, 1543 he had willed the Morton possessions to the husband of his third daughter, Elizabeth. Death: DEC 1548 in Dspm. However he was briefly associated with the Kennedy faction, which controlled the minority government of James III between 1463 and 1466.
