  2. James Scott, Earl of Dalkeith was the son of James Scott, 1st and last Duke of Monmouth and Anne Scott, Countess of Buccleuch. He was baptised on 26 May 1674. He married Lady Henrietta Hyde, daughter of Laurence Hyde, 1st Earl of Rochester and Lady Henrietta Boyle, on 2 January 1693/94.

  6. James Scott, Duke of Monmouth and Buccleuch. (1649-1685), Son of Charles II and Lucy Walter. Sitter associated with 42 portraits. The eldest of Charles II 's fourteen illegitimate children, Monmouth was the son of Lucy Walter. He fought in the Second and Third Anglo-Dutch wars gaining a considerable reputation as one of Britain's finest soldiers.
