  4. Moray, James Stewart, 2nd earl of [S] (c.1566–92). Regent Moray, assassinated in 1570, left a young daughter who was recognized as the countess of Moray. In 1581 she married the son of Lord Doune [S], who was in turn recognized as earl of Moray. He succeeded to the barony in 1590. He was murdered in a fray by his rival Huntly.
