Nacida y criada en Cambridge, Massachusetts, Curtin estudió arte dramático en la Northeastern University. Formó parte de la compañía teatral de improvisación The Proposition durante cuatro años antes de hacer una gira nacional con varias obras, como la comedia Last of the Red Hot Lovers.
