Birth and Parentage
Jane was the daughter of William Heckington of Bourne, Lincolnshire and Alice Walcot.She was born in about 1500: at her death in March 1588 she was 87 according to the inscription on her tomb.
Marriage and Children
Her father left her £20 for her dowry. In about 1519 she married Richard Cecil.They had one son and three daughters: 1. William, Lord Burghley 2. Margaret 3. Anne, who married Thomas White 4. Elizabeth, who married Robert Wingfield and Hugh Alington
Later Life
In the latter part of her life she lived as a widow at Burghley House near Peterborough, one of the homes of her son William, Lord Burghley.She was said to eschew the expensive and extravagant apparel someone with a son as eminent as Lord Burghley would normally have worn.
Daughter Anne
Stephen Alford's 2011 biography of Lord Burghley gives Anne as the name of the daughter who married Thomas White; the 1790 edition of Thoroton's History of Nottinghamshirehas it as Agnes.

His father, Richard Cecil, owned the vast Burghley estate in Northamptonshire (now in Cambridgeshire) and his mother was Jane Heckington. Cecil's grandfather, David, had been King Henry VII 's (1457–1509) yeoman of the guard, and he had served under Henry VIII (1491–1547; see entry) as sergeant-of-arms and as sheriff of Northamptonshire.
