The palace was originally built for Sir George Coppin in the 17th century, and it became known as Nottingham House after it was purchased by an earl of Nottingham.

Hace 3 días · In 1841 the Commissioners' architects, in their plan for building over the kitchen gardens, had proposed that a short road should be laid out across the forcing ground between Kensington Church Street and The Queen's Road. This plan was approved and in June 1844 a contract for laying a sewer was awarded.
