Eating together is part of College life. It's a great way to catch up with friends and meet new people. Arts, music, sports and societies. We have a huge range of arts and drama, music, sports, societies and social events on our doorstep. Careers and Mentoring. At Jesus, we put employability and careers at the forefront of the College experience.
Master's welcome. Welcome to Jesus College; a seat of learning for over 500 years. We are a diverse community made up of undergraduates, postgraduates, Fellows and staff, from many different backgrounds and from across the world. Over 1,000 people live and work in our beautiful site in the heart of Cambridge.
Founded in 1571, the College retains many of its original features – including our beautiful Elizabethan dining hall (below), Chapel, and Principal’s Lodgings. Jesus College was one of the first men’s colleges to admit women, in 1974, but nowadays, our student intake is evenly balanced between men and women.

Our History. Jesus College was founded in June 1571 by a group of Welshmen led by Hugh Price, a lawyer, clergyman and Treasurer of St. David’s Cathedral. In approving the new foundation however, Queen Elizabeth I appointed herself its Foundress, and Jesus became the first and only Oxford College to be founded during the monarch’s reign.
Our community. Jesus College is a diverse, hard working community. Our students are encouraged to pursue their ambitions in all areas, leading to a good mix of academic excellence with music, sports, and the arts. My favourite thing about Jesus is its welcoming community, and the plethora of societies on offer for all abilities and interests. Despite never having picked up an oar in my life, I was welcomed right away into Jesus College Boat Club and I’ve found a new passion for rowing!
