John Arbuthnot (baptisé le 29 avril 1667, mort le 27 février 1735) est un médecin, mathématicien et écrivain écossais. Il est surtout connu pour ses apports en mathématiques, son appartenance au Scriblerus Club (il y inspira sans doute le livre III des Voyages de Gulliver de Jonathan Swift , et de nombreux ouvrages d' Alexander Pope ), et pour avoir inventé le personnage de John Bull .
