John Bowes, 9th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne (17 July 1737 – 7 March 1776), born John Lyon, was a Scottish nobleman and peer. He was the 9th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and one of the maternal ancestors of King Charles III .

In 1767 John Lyon, 9th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, married Mary Eleanor, daughter and heir of George Bowes, of Streatlam and Gibside (Co. Durham) and Wemmergill (Yorkshire, North Riding) by Mary, daughter and heir of Edward Gilbert of St Paul's Walden (Hertfordshire).

8 de mar. de 2021 · Together with the 10 th Earl of Strathmore, she made sure that John Bowes received a good education and encouraged John on his path for art collecting. Although the Earl doted on his son, and married Mary on his deathbed in 1820, John Bowes was still considered illegitimate.
John Bowes, 10th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne (14 April 1769 – 3 July 1820) was a Scottish nobleman and peer. He was the eldest son of John Bowes, 9th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Mary Bowes, Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne. He lived mainly on his estates in Durham.
