Aide-de-Camp. John Ponsonby Conroy was born in Caernarvonshire, Wales, on 21 October 1786 and was one of six children born to John Ponsonby Conroy, a barrister, and Margaret Wilson, who were both Irish. On 8 September 1803, Conroy was commissioned in the Royal Artillery as a Second Lieutenant and was promoted to First lieutenant on 12 September.

Sir John Conroy, 1. Baronet KCH Kt (* 21. Oktober 1786 in Caerhun, Caernarvonshire; † 2.
