  1. John Burgoyne. Date of Birth - Death February 24, 1722 - August 4, 1792. John Burgoyne was born in London in 1722. After he completed his education at the Westminster School, he joined the army as a cornet in the 13th Light Dragoons in 1740. He eloped with the daughter of the Earl of Derby.

He was the illegitimate son of General John Burgoyne and opera singer Susan Caulfield. He was educated at Eton and Woolwich, obtained his commission in 1798 and was gazetted to the Royal Engineers.
