Al hablar de John Herschel debemos tener en cuenta que hablamos de un gran matemático, astrónomo o químico entre otros. No en vano su padre fue el descubridor de Urano. Así, tras muchos años de investigaciones y descubrimientos fue nombrado Sir. Pero volvamos a la fotografía, un campo donde también destacó de sobremanera.
John Frederick William Herschel (født 7. mars 1792 i Slough, den gangen Buckinghamshire nå Berkshire, England, død 11. mai 1871 i Collingwood, nær Hawkhurst, Kent, England) [11] var en engelsk matematiker, astronom, kjemiker og eksperimentell fotograf og oppfinner. [11] Han var sønn av astronomen William Herschel og far til tolv barn.

John Herschel est né à Slough (en ce temps dans le Buckinghamshire et actuellement dans le Berkshire ). En 1809, il entra à l'université de St John's College (Cambridge) et en 1812 proposa son premier article de mathématiques à la Royal Society . Il n'eut jamais de poste académique mais consacra sa vie à la recherche privée.
