The vandalised and partially-reconstructed tomb of John Neville and his first wife, Maud, between two pillars in the south transept of Durham Cathedral, in the former Neville Chantry. John Neville, 3rd Baron Neville , KG (c.1337 – 17 October 1388) was an English peer, naval commander, and soldier.

Hace 3 días · John, the 3rd Baron built the impressive fourteenth-century fortress of Raby Castle at Staindrop, which occupies the site of a palace built by King Canute. The castle is composed of a curtain wall with eight massive towers surrounding a central keep. The main entrance was in the west through the four-storey Neville Gateway.

It was built in the late 14th century by John Neville, 3rd Baron Neville de Raby frollowing the granting of a licence to crenellate 1379. [ 1] . Parts of the castle were rebuilt in c.1620 and Sir Henry Vane (snr) purchased the castle in 1626.
