  1. John Sheffield, 1st Duke of Buckingham and Normanby, KG, PC (7 April 1648 – 24 February 1721) was an English poet and Tory politician of the late Stuart period who served as Lord Privy Seal and Lord President of the Council. He was also known by his original title, Lord Mulgrave.

  3. Hace 4 días · He succeeded his father as 3rd Earl of Mulgrave and became Marquis (Marquess) of Normanby. In 1703 he was created 1st Duke of Buckingham and Normanby. He built Buckingham House, on the site of the present Buckingham Palace. He had no children by his first two wives.

  5. John Sheffield succeeded his father as third Earl of Mulgrave in 1658, and was known as Mulgrave until created marquess of Normanby in 1694 and finally Duke of Buckingham and Normanby in 1703. He went to sea at the age of 18 and served in the second and third Anglo-Dutch Wars.
