Hace 2 días · The Bronx was named after Jonas Bronck (c. 1600–1643), a European settler whose precise origins are disputed. Documents indicate he was a Swedish-born immigrant from Komstad, Norra Ljunga parish, in Småland, Sweden, who arrived in New Netherland during the spring of 1639.

Hace 3 días · In 1641 Jonas Bronck, a Scandinavian, purchased 500 acres (200 hectares). Shortly thereafter religious dissenters and New England settlers moved there, trespassing on Dutch territory. The borough was a part of Westchester county until 1898, when it was incorporated in the city of New York.
