Josef Korbel (/ ˌ k ɒr ˈ b ɛ l /; September 20, 1909 – July 18, 1977) was a Czech-American diplomat and political scientist. During his public career, he served as Czechoslovakia 's ambassador to Yugoslavia and was the country's representative to the United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan , serving as its chair.

Josef Korbel. Founder and first dean of the Graduate school in 1964, Josef Korbel helped shape the field of international studies. He was mentor to two former Secretaries of State. The first was his daughter and first female Secretary of State, Madeleine K. Albright; the second was his star student, Condoleezza Rice.
