The following year, while travelling on a bus to the Institute, he met George Harrison , who was also a student there.

Paul was a smart kid and passed his 11-Plus exam which allowed him to attend grammar school. After primary school, he attended the Liverpool Institute High School for Boys, an all-boys grammar school.

1825. The Liverpool Institute High School for Boys was an all-boys grammar school in the English port city of Liverpool . The school had its origins in 1825 but occupied different premises while the money was found to build a dedicated building on Mount Street. The institute was first known as the Liverpool Mechanics' School of Arts.

He was born in Liverpool and attended Stockton Wood Road Primary School in Speke from 1947 until 1949 when he transferred to Joseph Williams Junior School in Belle Vale because of overcrowding at Stockton.
