22 de abr. de 2024 · John de Balliol (died 1268/69) was a Scottish magnate of Norman descent, one of the richest landowners of his time in Britain, who is regarded as the founder of Balliol College, Oxford; he was the father of John de Balliol, king of Scots. The elder John served (1251–55) as guardian of the young Scottish king Alexander III.

2 de may. de 2024 · He had three or four elder brothers, Hugh Balliol (d.1229), lord of Barnard Castle in Durham, Bernard (d.1212), Ingram (d.1239×44) and possibly Eustace. By 1233 he married Lora de Valognes (d.a.Apr.1272), eldest daughter and co-heir of William de Valognes of Panmure. He held lands in Hertfordshire and Roxburghshire.
