Streicher served in the German army during World War I and afterward taught elementary school in Nürnberg.

As Gauleiter of Franconia, the region that included Nuremberg, he became infamous for violence, debauchery, and financial fraud, and his anti-Semitic newspaper “Der Stürmer” disgusted even the Nazi elite. Hitler’s patronage was the only reason why Streicher hadn’t been executed during the time of the Third Reich.
