    Carlos Augusto era el tercer hijo, y tercer varón, del Príncipe Alberto I, 8º Príncipe de Thurn y Taxis, y su esposa la Archiduquesa Margarita Clementina de Austria.[1]​[2]​ Después de graduarse de un colegio de educación secundaria local, Carlos Augusto estudió ciencia en la Universidad de Wurzburgo.

    Karl August was the third son and child of Albert, 8th Prince of Thurn and Taxis, and his wife, Archduchess Margarethe Klementine of Austria. After graduating from a local high school, Karl August studied science at the University of Würzburg.
