4 de feb. de 2015 · The youngest surviving child of the ‘Catholic Kings’ of Spain, Catherine of Aragon – (Katharine) – was born on 16 December 1485, the same year that Henry VII established the Tudor dynasty. At the age of three, she was betrothed to his infant son, Prince Arthur. In 1501, shortly before her sixteenth birthday, Katharine sailed to England.
Katherine still held enormous influence with her former staff, receiving her former lady-in-waiting and confidante, María de Salinas, when the latter had received news of her mistress’s final illness. The former Queen of England’s prolonged melancholy ceased on 7 January 1536, just weeks before Anne Boleyn would miscarry her final pregnancy.
Katherine entered English politics as a child when her parents decided to negotiate an alliance with Henry VII, King of England, and his Queen, Elizabeth of York. She was betrothed to Prince Arthur, Henry’s eldest son, and left Spain in 1501, aged just 15.
