3 de may. de 2024 · He died in December 1881, at 1 Gloucester Road, Kensington, and was buried in Kensal Green Cemetery, alongside his brother Henry Burton, and his sister Jessy Burton. Decimus was the last of his siblings to die. Over his grave is a tapering sarcophagus of grey Cornish granite, on a stepped base, with a shallow pyramidal cover.

Hace 5 días · By 1851 Kensal Green was a mixed community, including tradesmen, agricultural labourers, and farmers, two schoolteachers, the curate of St. John's, the author William Harrison Ainsworth at Kensal Manor House (built on the site of Red House, and demolished in 1939), and people employed at the cemetery.
Hace 5 días · St. John's was the first church to be built north of the Uxbridge road, and its district, as originally defined in 1845, contained almost the whole of this part of the parish as far north as Kensal Green Cemetery, only the Norland estate (where the building of St. James's was almost contemporaneous) and the Potteries being excluded.
