Kitty Barry Blackwell. Katherine "Kitty" Barry Blackwell (born c. 1847) was an Irish immigrant to the United States and the adopted daughter of Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to earn a medical degree in the United States. She served as Elizabeth Blackwell's companion and secretary.
Kitty Barry Blackwell was an Irish orphan adopted by Elizabeth Blackwell in circa 1854 in New York. She served as her mother’s secretary and companion, and her slight deafness made her self-conscious and shy.
