Koo Stark was born in New York City in 1956. At the age of 14 she moved to London to get European education. In 1982 , the renowned photographer Norman Parkinson took it upon himself to mentor Koo's work. He trained her eye and she remained his protégé from 1982 until he passed away in 1990. The couple was close for some two years, before and after his active service in the Falklands War. In October 1982 they took a holiday together on the island of Mustique.
