She was haunted by the scandal, suffered nightmares and vowed never to repeat her behaviour. Victoria's marriage to Prince Albert in early 1840 restored goodwill towards her.

Lady Flora Hastings, born in 1806, was the daughter of Francis Rawdon Hastings, a soldier and diplomat who, among many accomplishments, fought at Bunker Hill and was governor-general of Bengal.
