18 de jul. de 2023 · Count Levin August von Bennigsen (1745-1826), a German-born soldier in the service of the Russian Empire during the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815). He led Russian forces at the battles of Eylau, Friedland, and Borodino, as well as several engagements during the War of the Sixth Coalition (1813-1814).

Bennigsens son Alexander blev statsminister i kungariket Hannover .
Bennigsen was de zoon van kolonel Levin Friedrich von Bennigsen van Brunswijk en zijn echtgenote Henriette Marie von Rauchhaupt. Langs moederszijde was hij achterkleinzoon van maarschalk Hans Adam von Schöning. Hij kreeg thuis kort onderricht en begon al in 1755 als page aan het hof te Hannover. Vier jaar later werd hij vaandrig.
