This is a list of countries and dependencies ranked by human population density, and measured by the number of human inhabitants per square kilometer or square mile. The list includes sovereign states and self-governing dependent territories based upon the ISO standard ISO 3166-1 .
Transcontinental countries in North America or South America (depending on the boundary definition), classified as South American countries by the United Nations Statistics Division: Colombia (Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina) and Venezuela (Nueva Esparta, the Federal Dependencies of Venezuela [including Isla de Aves]).
This is a list of countries and territories by the United Nations geoscheme, including 193 UN member states, two UN observer states (the Holy See and the State of Palestine), two states in free association with New Zealand (the Cook Islands and Niue), and 49 non-sovereign dependencies or territories, as well as Western Sahara (a disputed territory whose sovereignty is contested) and Antarctica.

Below is a list of European countries and dependencies by area in Europe. As a continent , Europe's total geographical area is about 10 million square kilometres. [2] Transcontinental countries are ranked according to the size of their European part only, excluding Greece due to the not clearly defined boundaries of its islands between Europe and Asia .
