General Lord Alexander George Russell GCB (16 September 1821 – 10 January 1907) was a British Army general. He served during the Siege of Sevastapol in the Crimean War.
Perhaps the most notable member of the family was Lord John Russell (afterward 1st Earl Russell), a proponent of schemes for reform of Parliament and twice prime minister in the mid-19th century. In the 20th century the family’s most famous member was Lord John Russell’s grandson, the philosopher

The 5th Earl of Bedford (1613-1700) was created Duke of Bedford in 1694. His eldest son William, Lord Russell (1639-83), married in 1669 Lady Rachel Wriothesley, daughter and co-heir of the 4th Earl of Southampton, through whom the Bloomsbury (Middlesex) estate and land in Hampshire (Stratton, Micheldever, etc) came to the Russell family.
