Born in September 1735, the death of his father in 1741 and his paternal uncle in 1747 made him heir to his grandfather, the second Duke, Lord Chamberlain to George II.
Lord Augustus FitzRoy (16 October 1716 – 24 May 1741) was a British officer of the Royal Navy. Augustus Charles Lennox FitzRoy, 7th Duke of Grafton KG CB (22 June 1821 – 4 December 1918), styled Lord Augustus FitzRoy before 1882, was a British Army officer. He was the second son of Henry FitzRoy, 5th Duke of Grafton , and his wife Mary Caroline Cranfield Berkeley, daughter of Admiral the Hon. Sir George Cranfield Berkeley .
