Louis de Lorraine was born in 1527 the fourth son of Claude, Duke of Guise and Antoinette de Bourbon. His brothers François, Duke of Guise, Charles, Cardinal of Lorraine, Claude, Duke of Aumale, François de Lorraine, Grand Prior and René, Marquis of Elbeuf were born in 1519, 1524, 1526, 1534 and 1536 respectively.
7 de dic. de 2023 · That same night, Louis, Cardinal of Guise (1555-88), brother of Henri, was assassinated by four archers of the king, who feared less the cardinal should become a peril to the State. The bodies of the two leaders of the League were burned and thrown into the Loire.
Louis was never ordained as a priest, but he was appointed as the coadjutor archbishop of Reims in 1601 and succeeded his uncle Philippe du Bec as the archbishop of Reims in 1605. He was also the abbot of Cluny from 1612 to 1621. He was created cardinal by Pope Paul V on December 2, 1615 and became known as the Cardinal de Guise.

Louis Ier de Lorraine, également appelé Louis de Guise, né à Joinville le 21 octobre 1527, mort à Paris le 29 mars 1578, fut cardinal de Guise. (fr) Louis de Lorraine (21 October 1527, in Joinville, Champagne – 29 March 1578, in Paris) was a French Roman Catholic cardinal and Bishop of Metz. He was the nephew of Cardinal Jean de Lorraine.
