Lucy’s surname has been recorded as Walter or Walters, Waters, and, Barlow or Barlo (the alias she used occasionally) by contemporaries and scholars over the years, but here I have referred to her by the assumed correct name of Walter. Lucy was born into a Welsh middling-gentry family around 1630 and lived in Roch Castle, Pembrokeshire.
