Françoise de Rochechouart de Mortemart, later known as Madame de Montespan, was the third of five children born to Diane de Grandseigne. Diane, daughter of Jean, seigneur de Marsillac, and Catherine de la Beraudière (of the prominent Frottier de la Messelière family), was the wife of Gabriel de Rochechouart, marquis of Mortemart and of Lussac and Vivonne, prince of Tonnay-Charente.

Madame de Montespan (francès: Françoise-Athénaïs de Rochechouart de Mortemart, marquise de Montespan) (Lussac-les-Châteaux, c. 5 d'octubre de 1640 - Bourbon-l'Archambault, 27 de maig de 1707) fou una noble francesa.
Luisa de la Vallière le dio cuatro hijos bastardos al Rey Sol, y Diana-Athénais, convertida ya en madame la marquesa de Montespan, siete entre los años 1667 y 1679, etapa en la que Luis XIV frecuentaba además otras camas. Y como a todas las cortesanas, a madame de Montespan le llegó el turno de dejar de ser la favorita de su Señor.
